My Supplement Routine at 2 Months Postpartum

I have been asked about my supplement routine now that I’ve had the baby so I’m sharing below each supplement I take and why. At first glace, it seems like a lot but I’ll explain why each supplement is essential for me. Please remember, this is not advice but simply an insight into what is working for me at the moment.

Postpartum supplementation is a crucial aspect of postnatal care for both the mother and the baby and plays a significant role in ensuring the health and well-being of both during this critical phase. Here are several reasons why I priorotize postpartum supplementation:

  • Replenishing Nutrient Stores: Pregnancy and childbirth can deplete a mother's nutrient reserves. Proper upplementation can help restore these reserves, promoting better health and a quicker recovery.

  • Breastfeeding Support: Breastfeeding increases a mother's nutritional needs. Proper supplement intake can help meet these increased requirements, ensuring that both mother and baby receive the necessary nutrients.

  • Mood and Emotional Well-Being: Postpartum depression and mood disorders are not uncommon. Some studies suggest that omega-3 supplements may help improve mood and reduce the risk of postpartum depression.

  • Energy and Recovery: The postpartum period can be physically demanding and exhausting. Supplements like iron, B vitamins, and magnesium can aid in energy production and muscle recovery, helping the mother feel more energized and recover faster.

  • Long-Term Health: Proper supplementation postpartum can contribute to the mother's long-term health. By addressing nutritional deficiencies and maintaining a balanced diet, the risk of developing chronic conditions like osteoporosis, anemia, or heart disease can be reduced.

It's important to note that the specific supplements required postpartum can vary from one individual to another. You should work closely with your healthcare provider to determine your unique nutritional needs. Moreover, while supplements are valuable, they should complement a healthy, balanced diet rather than replace it.

Here is what I take.

Foundation Level 2 Protocol

  • Probiotic - Probiotics, which are beneficial live microorganisms that provide various health benefits, can be beneficial for postnatal women by: restoring gut health, improving digestive health (Many women experience digestive issues postpartum, such as constipation, bloating, or indigestion), providing immune support: reducing of postpartum depression, improving breast milk quality and more.

  • Multi-Vitamin - A quality multi-vitamin ensures you’re getting the optimal levels of important vitamins and nutrients.

  • Daily Fruit & Vegetable Blend - ensures you’re getting the benefits of 22 fruits and vegetables, plus antioxidants and rare superfoods that support optimal health.

  • Daily Omega 3 - Omega-3 fatty acids are essential for the baby's brain and visual development. Omega-3 supplements, derived from fish oil or algae, provide essential fatty acids for cardiovascular health and cognitive function.

  • Vitamin D - Vitamin D3 is crucial for maintaining bone health, supporting the immune system, and regulating mood and is essential for both the mother's and the baby's immune systems. It is especially important if the mother is breastfeeding, as breast milk may not provide sufficient levels of vitamin D.

Pre-Natal Components - the following supplements combined with my multi-vitamin provide all of the additional vitamins required for prenatal needs

  • Iron Response - Blood loss during childbirth can lead to iron deficiency anemia. Iron supplements can help replenish iron levels and prevent anemia, which can cause fatigue and other health issues.

  • Activated Folate - Folate is crucial for preventing neural tube defects in newborns. Women who are planning to become pregnant or who have recently given birth are often advised to continue taking folic acid supplements to reduce the risk of birth defects.

Breast Milk Supply

Beauty / Hair Health

  • Collagen - Advanced Collagen Support provides patented ingredients clinically studied for their ability to improve the connective tissues in our body, plus support healthy hair, skin, and nails.

  • Nutrafol - targets key root causes of postpartum thinning—physical and emotional stress, hormonal changes, and nutrient depletion

Other

  • Magnesium - Magnesium plays a role in over 300 processes in the body, ranging from mental function, muscle contraction, and sleep regulation.

Incorporating a well-rounded supplement routine can complement your postpartum diet and promote optimal health. Remember to consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new supplement regimen to ensure it aligns with your individual needs.

If you recently had a baby, please share the supplements that you take and recommend!
